Wigan & Leigh Council for Voluntary Service is committed to promoting, enabling, supporting and co-ordinating  voluntary and community action in the Wigan Borough.  They aim to empower and develop local voluntary and community organisations by:

 

Ensuring the voluntary sector has a voice

  • Advocating for the voluntary sector
  • Encouraging good practice
  • Providing access to accurate and up-to-date information
  • Providing opportunities for networking
  • Developing skills, knowledge and expertise
  • Supporting the development of new initiatives to meet the needs of the community

Support on offer:

  • Advice to groups - setting up, funding and fundraising support, preparing a business plan, committee skills, book keeping, charity law, policies & procedures
  • Information - sheets, reference library, enquiry and advice service, access to local & national directories, newsletters and website
  • Training - a range of training opportunities and accredited training courses specific to voluntary sector organisations
  • Providing a link between a wide variety of groups, organisations and individuals both within the Wigan Borough and Nationally
  • Providing a link with public, private, voluntary and community sectors
  • Setting up, supporting and developing a variety of voluntary and community sector organisations
  • Volunteering for 16-25 year olds (Vinvolved) - working with a range of local organisations to develop exciting volunteering opportunities to suit the passions, skills and time of young people
  • Health & Social Care Project - develops and supports health and social care voluntary organisations
